Robin van Persie is struggling but still wants to continue with Manchester United

Robin van Persie did not have the most impressive of seasons as the Dutchman only managed to score 10 Premier League goals in 27 appearances for Manchester United in the previous season. This is a fairly depressing statistic for any forward in the world of football but its especially underwhelming for a player which is usually considered to be one of the best in the world and who arrived to Old Trafford with a price tag of €22 million.

Juan Mata scored 9 goals and provided 4 assists which is double of what Robin van Persie accomplished with fewer minutes on the pitch.

Manchester United did however struggle in it’s entirety, it wasn’t a single player who performed at a mediocre level, it was the entire squad of Louis van Gaal which played at a level which is considered to be disappointing except for David de Gea and a few other figures that managed to turn into the backbone of the Premier League club in this past season.

Even with the uninspiring season that Robin van Persie experienced, the Dutch forward has stated that he wants to continue performing for Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The former star of Arsenal, Robin van Persie said: “In August I’m 32. But I still have the ambition to play for another eight years.  “In a few years’ time I may have to accept that I will no longer play at the very highest level. I don’t think that moment is coming now. I still feel very, very fit.

“Playing in the first-team is very important for me. This is why I will probably step down one level when I am 36 or 37. But not now.I’ve seen too many players quit early. Most of them regret this soon after’’

At the age of 31, Robin van Persie is reaching the stages of his career where many players start thinking about where to spend the last few years of their respective playing career but this is something that van Persie does not want to do as he wants to continue performing at a high level and not have any distractions.
