RECORD BREAKERS

Sir Alex Ferguson has said that he wants his side to break Chelsea’s record of securing the most no. of points in a Premier League season.

The Blues had secured 95 points in the 2004-05 season.

Manchester United can break Chelsea’s record in the ongoing season, but, for that, they will have to win at least 7 out of their remaining 9 matches.

The Red Devils have so far played 29 matches in the ongoing Premier League out of which they have won 24 and have lost 3. The remaining couple of games have ended in draws. So, they have a total of 74 points at the moment and to break Chelsea’s record, they need more than 21 points which means they need at least 7 victories and 1 draw.

When asked about his team’s chances of breaking the record of Chelsea, Ferguson said, “I want the team to set it as a target. That will give them extra motivation in the remaining matches. We need 22 points to become the new record holder and if we play up to our potential, we will be able to do that.”

United is in a great position to win the Premier League this season. Manchester City which is second in the points table has 15 points less than United which shows how well the Red Devils have played in the ongoing Premier League.

However, Ferguson has said that his team shouldn’t relax as there are some crucial matches coming up. The United manager said, “We are undoubtedly in a very good position right now. We have been dominant so far and we need to continue this. There are some vital games coming up. So, we can’t relax. We need to finish off the season in style.”
