What is more important that the safety of you, your family, and if you have them, your children? How much is it worth to you when someone collapses in your home and you call 911, a patient voice gives you instruction while the fire department is sent, and within 4 minutes, they are at your home providing life-saving measures? What is it worth when you think someone is prowling or breaking into your home to call the police and have 3 cars pull up within minutes to protect you, your safety, and your property? Can you put a price on that reality of being safe in your on home and neighborhood?
I have consistantly supported funding our police and fire departments, including significant purcases of heavy rescue equipment and HAZMAT equipment for our city. I stated at the time some other council people were questioning the costs of these vehicles, "If it were my child that was in a crashed car and required heavy rescue equipment to get them out, there is NO QUESTION IN MY MIND that I would want the closest, best staffed equipment to be there for my family. I feel the same way about all of West Jordan, and I bet they do too." The fire and police departments are always there, but we often don't think about them until we really need them. But on the city council, as we look at and approve the budget, they are always a top priorty for me. Before I look at implementing more programs or taking resources from one place and putting them somewhere else, I am committed to ensuring our core, critical services are not impacted. If anything, they need to be expanded to keep up with our growth.
Which of the other city council candidates have talked about doing something about this issue? Crime, gang activity, grafitti removal, neighborhood watch, CERT (community emergency response training), fire brigade . . . When we talk in this election, let's make sure we talk about the REAL issues.
