In this article published at the end of the campaign season in 2003, the Deseret News was reviewing candidates on the west side of the valley and what they wanted to accomplish. I am quoted here as being concerned that if we let the market dictate what happens to our city, then we will be overwhelmed - referring to the number of people who continue to move into our city due to high density and multi-family housing. I felt at that time - and still do - that we have sufficient high-density housing in our city and need to focus on other housing types: estate lots, high-end housing and those offerings that will allow us to compete with other communities surrounding us and stop the bleeding of residents who buy in West Jordan, but when they want to move up, they leave us to go to South Jordan, Sandy or Draper. We can do better and have been making progress since I made this statement in 2003.
