ImageIt is my pleasure to pass along a comment made by Lyle Summers, councilman for District 4, in our past council meeting. In it, he stated that he has decided to announce he is running for his council seat in this year's election. So far, that means three out of four current council members are intending on running for their council seats with the exception of Mr. Mike Kellermeyer who has so far stated he is not planning on running for re-election. This should make for an interesting race with incumbents in 3 districts and recently redrawn council district boundaries based on changes to the voting precincts that the county clerk's office has made in our city. Our city recorder, Melanie Briggs, proposed a change to the four districts that would make the populations in them fairly equal at this time, realizing that at some point down the road they will have to be changed again as our population keeps moving West in the city with new development.

I am very pleased to see Mr. Summers run. He is a concerned, wise and responsible steward of the people's trust and has made great strides in helping this city in its water conservation efforts, preservation of open space and parkland, and responsible/transparent government. I wish Mr. Summers all my best in the upcoming election and hope the citizens in his district will see fit to sent him back for a third term in representing their interests on the city council.
