I believe that the earlier we help our kids understand what a privilege it is to live in this country, the better prepared they will be to take their part in it. Groups such as Boy Scouts and other volunteer groups work hard to try to instill these values of citizenship and responsibility. As I am asked to help scout groups talk about government and how it works as a city councilman, I have finally put together a simple document that talks briefly and simply about what the Constitution does, how it works, and what rights it gives us. It is a PDF file, so it can be opened and printed from any computer. I make it freely available and simply ask that proper credit be given if it is used.
My love and appreciation for this document that enshrines so much of our hopes and dreams as a country needs to be better appreciated by us as a people. We can start by learning how to teach it to our children. You can get it by clicking here. |
