ImageBefore getting into important issues like platforms, issues and positions, it might be nice to get one thing out of the way. I am officially declaring my candidacy for West Jordan City Council District 2's seat in 2007. I have served the community and my constituents in my district in this capacity for the past 3 years for the term ending 2007.

This race will be for the term starting in 2008 and ending in 2011. I have not been made aware of any candidates declaring their intent to run in my district at this time, but when that eventuality does occur, I will post contact information for them here on my site. Why would I do that, you ask?

My problem with politics and candidates in the past has been the issue of not knowing enough about anyone to feel I could cast an informed vote. Often, the average person's reaction to this is to not vote for anyone rather than vote for the wrong person. The more you get to interact with, ask questions of, and see how each candidate conducts themselves, the more likely you are to feel comfortable finding someone who can represent your views. I feel that the race in my district will be better for the voters if they have every opportunity to find out as much as they can about the candidates. I won't necessary give them room and free advertising to here on my site to espouse their positions, but I want each person visiting here to be able to know how they can get their questions answered about each candidate. The more informed you are, the better your representatives will know what you expect of them. Each candidate deserves to state what they stand for and not have someone else tell their story for them or about them.

I look forward to a clean, issues-focused campaign that will discuss what West Jordan needs the most: what problems it faces that need appropriate leadership and clear direction, responsibility and accountability for decisions and priorities, fiscal responsibility, opportunities for community outreach and working together for the common good, and transparent and open government that is founded on the principle of making as much information as is reasonable and prudent for citizen involvement and scrutiny to ensure their government is truly acting in their best interests. I intend to look any citizen in the eye and explain both how I have acted and how I plan to continue to lead in these areas if re-elected. This has been a great era in West Jordan's history, and I hope to share in continuing this progress by asking for your vote.

As always, I will be happy to receive your questions, comments, concerns and opinions as we work towards the general election in November 2007.

Rob
