What are the terms of office? PDF Print E-mail

Terms of office for city elected officials are set by the State Legislature. In our form of government, the Mayor and city council members serve for 4 year terms that begin the first Tuesday in January following their election in the November General Election. The terms of the city council are staggered so about half of the council comes up for re-election every two years. Upcoming elections will go as follows:

2005 - Mayor and two at-large council members (representing the entire city)
2007 - 4 district-representing council members (representing each corresponding district they come from)
2009 - Mayor and two at-large council members
etc.
